Here’s a wild guess: you have most likely heard the name “Carlsberg” before, correct? The beer brand is nowadays worldwide famous. In Copenhagen, you can visit their museum – Visit Carlsberg – which offers beer history and beer tasting but also lots of art.
That Carlsberg is involved in many art venues in Copenhagen is perhaps not something everyone knows about. For example, the museum Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek is built with collections from Carl Jacobsen, son of Carlsberg’s founder. He had one of the biggest collections of modern times and donated them to the city of Copenhagen in 1888. A building was risen to serve the collections, which is what Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek is today. Carl Jacobsen was also the person who donated the Little Mermaid to the city of Copenhagen, a true landmark of the city still today.
At Visit Carlsberg, you’ll see that art is found everywhere here too. The Little Mermaid has a little sister (seen in the photo above), and there’s also a Sculpture Garden. When you’ve checked out the art, try the famous beer and learn all about the history of the brewery on a guided tour. Opening hours can be found on Visit Carlsberg’s website.
