The food market Kødbyens Mad & Marked is located in the, you might have guessed it, Kødbyens district in Copenhagen. In English the district is called “the meatpacking district”, since it was once an area for butchers and wholesalers, but a lot has changed over recent years. The connection to food still exists though as it is a centre of culinary activity today.

During summer the district offers a food market taking place every week on Saturdays and Sundays and it hosts up to 70 food stalls. In order to get traders who sell proper food with great quality, the cost for the stalls are kept low. That also has the nice side effect that the traders don’t sell their food or ingredients for a unproportionally high price.

You’ll also never find the same food market each week, there are a lot of different sellers showing up. The reason for that is that the people behind the food market try to make it as diverse as possible and also accessible for new people who try to sell their products. Another way the organisers create an unique experience is by hosting a monthly Sunday market with a theme. There’s even sometimes food markets outside of the summer season, there’s a Christmas food market for instance. You can find about more about these on the market’s website

It’s always a tough decision where to go eat while you’re on holiday, without spending a fortune at a nice restaurant. Here on the Kødbyens Mad & Marked you can either have a great lunch or buy whatever ingredients you need to cook for yourself if you have the possibility to do so and all that at a fair price.
