Get to know the boroughs of Oslo: Telthusbakken & Damstredet

Telthusbakken and Damstredet are two streets that together make out a picturesque area in central Oslo. It consists of old wooden houses, all the way from the 1700s and 1800s.

If you’re looking to get away from crowds and tourists, it’s the perfect opportunity to go to Telthusbakken and Damstredet to stroll and look at pretty houses. The area is located just by the medieval church Gamla Aker Kirke, a beautiful sight in itself. Both streets are located in the area of St. Hanshaugen, and are narrow and crooked. On the south side of Telthusbakken you’ll see allotment huts, which makes the area feel quite rustic rather than being close to central Oslo. Both streets are filled with traditional wooden houses, built between the 1810s and 1850s.

To go to Telthusbakken and Damstredet, go north on Akersgata and turn up on Damstredet. To come to Telthusbakken, go further until yo see the street sign of Telthusbakken. However we recommend that you allow yourself to ‘get lost’.

PS. On the way you will pass the cemetery Vår Frelsers Gravlund, where Munch is buried.
