Things to do in Stockholm’s city center

stadtzentrum stockholm

The city center of Stockholm might seem bustling, stressful and filled with fumes. We know the perfect places to hide out in Stockholm’s city center, also known as Norrmalm.

Shop at NK – an iconic department store in Stockholm
NK (Nordiska Kompaniet) is a luxury department store located on Hamngatan in central Stockholm. It opened already in 1915 and has since then been a proactive department house. It’s here you’ll find exclusive launches and luxurious brands. NK is the counterpart to UK’s Harrods and Scotland’s Jenners. Go here for window shopping, a fika or lunch.

Stockholm House of Culture & City Theatre
Every year approx. 3 million visit take place in the glass-facaded house on Sergels torg. Kulturhuset – in English Stockholm House of Culture – really makes up for it’s name. Here you’ll find theatre, debates, film, dance and music, art exhibitions and libraries. See what going on in this decadent house on their website.

Be amazed at The Hallwyl Museum
Once upon a time, this museum was the home to Count and Countess Walther and Wilhelmina von Hallwyl. The couple was very rich, fact is the residence was built for them as a winter house. Wilhelmina was a collector and always intended for their home to become a museum after they had passed away. In 1920 the couple donated their mansion to the Swedish State. Part from the amazing collection, the house itself is remarkable. It was built after a design by Isak Gustaf Clason in 1893-98, the man who’s also in charge of the design of the Nordic Museum. Guided tours are offered daily, find the schedule here.
