Weekend in Stockholm

If you ask us, Fall is by far the best season to recharge your batteries from the activity-filled Summer. Are you planning on visiting Stockholm during this colourful time of the year? Perfect. We’ve helped you plan what you should do, where you should eat and where you should sleep during your weekend in the capital of Sweden.

Top 3 best Fall activities

1. Getting cosy at cafés

Make sure to pay a visit to the unique coffee shops in the Old Town, often inspired by vikings and the middle ages. They are often decorated in full Middle Ages style with low ceilings and cosy atmosphere. It truly is a coffee experience out of the ordinary. Check out Café Gråmunken and Kaffekoppen, you won’t be disappointed!

2. Bargain-hunting in second hand stores

Here’s a secret: Fall is the perfect season to go second hand shopping, since many stores are closed during Summertime and re-open during fall. Take a break from the cold and visit the second hand stores to find a few vintage gems. Some common ones are Humana, Stockholms Stadsmission and Myrorna, which all have several stores scattered all over Stockholm. Google them to see which one of them are nearby! In general, Södermalm is a good place to find cute vintage shops.

3. Feeling cultural? Visit Museums

Is it raining outside? Good thing Stockholm is packed (seriously packed) with interesting museums for all ages and interests. Two of our favourite museums are Vasamuseet, where you can find the big Vasa Ship that sank in 1623 and Stadsmuseet where you can listen to stories and learn more about Stockholm.

Top 3 restaurants this Fall

1. “Dagens husman”

Want to try real Swedish food? Here’s our hack: walk into any lunch restaurant in Stockholm and ask for “dagens husman”, which basically means traditional home cooked food. There’s most likely a meat dish, a fish dish and a vegetarian alternative so everyone can enjoy some real traditional food. Perfect if you want to get that real Swedish experience for a great price.

2. Nystekt Strömming

Need to eat something quick before you head out exploring the city? Here’s a fun, different and Swedish tip: visit Nystekt Strömming. The kiosk is as its name implies, famous for their baltic herring (also known as strömming) which they serve in various ways. Strömming is the Swedish delicacy which is a must on Easter, Midsummer and Christmas.

Kornhamnstorg 4, subway station Slussen

3. Himlen

Looking for a dinner with a view? Then Himlen on Södermalm is a perfect choice. The restaurant and cocktail bar has without doubt the best view over Stockholm. With windows from floor to ceiling, you’re guaranteed a great dinner experience.

Götgatan 78, subway station Medborgarplatsen

3 places to stay during your weekend

1. Haymarket Hotel

Experience an elegant hotel with the perfect location if you want to be in a walking distance of everything. Besides the location, their bar is known for delicious cocktails and knowledgeable bartenders that entertain you with their skills while you wait for your turn. Who would’ve known standing in line could be so much fun?

Hötorget 13-15, subway station Hötorget

2. Af Chapman

Looking for an experience out of the ordinary? Book your stay at Af Chapman – the unique hostel where you’ll live on a sailing ship from the 1800’s. The hostel is located on the marines old territory on Skeppsholmen, with a great view and a walking distance to shopping, museums, bars and restaurants.
