STOCKHOLM. 3hrs. Have you heard of the Vasa Museum? Those who have been never forget it. Salute & Salvation is a celebration of the most astounding event in Swedish History. It is a true WOW experience and something you won't want to miss!
In 1628, a big salute was fired to celebrate the maiden voyage of the great Vasa ship. In 1957, the same vessel was applauded as it was salvaged from the bottom of the sea. What happened in the years in between? Salute the Vasa Ship with us and hear all about its salvation.
In the 1620s, the Swedish king Gustav II Adolf felt like he didn’t have a big enough a ship to showcase his greatness. As his enemies called him “the lion of the North”, he couldn’t go to war with a small sailboat. The pressure was on and the Vasa ship was born. His precious ship was however too good to be true and sank on its maiden voyage.
Salute & Salvation doesn’t only take you on a voyage of the Swedes’ failures and success stories, it also shows you around town. Discover the city districts of Södermalm, Norrmalm, Djurgården, Östermalm and Gamla stan. Gamla Stan or Old Town as we would say in English is where everything once began. It was from here the Vasa ship took off on that fateful afternoon in 1628.
As we end our tour, we promise your heart will salute the city of Stockholm.
