Did you know that Stockholm is host to one of the most beautiful marathons in the world? Here is your chance to run bits of it. Choose what sights to sweat next to below.
The City Highlights (City Center & Old Town)
Starting out in Kungsträdgården, a large park and popular meeting point for locals, the jog takes us past the Prime Minister’s residence to the City Hall, taking in views such as the Grand Hotel, Parliament building and the Royal Palace. From the City Hall we skip along to the island of Riddarholmen, or as we would say in English, the Island of Nobility, where we find private palaces from the 1600’s. Our final destination is the Old Town, jogging up and down alleys we stumble across sights like the main square of the Old Town and Coronation Church.
Lush Stockholm (Djurgården & Old Town)
This jogg starts in the Old Town. From poor to rich, listen to stories and legends of the people who used to live here, take in sights like the Royal Palace, the statue of Saint George and the narrowest alley in Stockholm. From the Old Town we run along Strandvägen, a boulevard built with the hopes of being “unparalleled in Europe”. Fantastic architecture and lush views guaranteed. This sightjogging tour ends on the island of Djurgården, known as the green lung of Stockholm and the recreational area for the city locals.
Hipster Island (Södermalm)
Södermalm is known as the bohemian part of Stockholm. Our story about Södermalm begins at the beginning of the 1600’s. At this time there isn’t enough room for everyone to live in the Old Town and it is decided that anyone that is poor or deceased will have to live on the island of Södermalm. Over time, areas like Södermalm develop into trendy, hipster areas, and that is what we have today! Chic boutiques, cozy cafes and great restaurants.
Södermalm offers great views of the city and it is known as the home of Lisbeth Salander, from the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. This sightjogging tour starts at Slussen and ends at Nytorget.
