Vain Vikings of Runriket Private Driving TourBook this tour now
STOCKHOLM. 4hrs. Plain vikings, vain vikings - we have had them all. Travel to Runriket and meet Jarlabanke, with a bit of imagination you'll see yourself in the mist of the tv-series The Vikings. This part of history is waiting for you!
Come with us on a quest for vain Vikings in Stockholm! We find ourselves in Runriket, where the ancient rune stones are closer than anywhere else in the whole world. Scout and find traces from people who used to live here about 1000 years ago.
Imagine the setting of the tv-series ‘Vikings’ - this is as close to fiction as it gets. Runriket, the area around Vallentuna lake, is filled with relics from the Viking period. Venture down a trail that leads you from one relic to another, pass the burial ground at Broby bridge - where archaeologists believe that some of these Vikings have been buried. Buuh!
The Vikings of the past share their story with us through carved messages on the rune stones, written a thousand years ago. Let us introduce you to the vainest of them all: governor Jarlabanke, who raised five rune stones and built a bridge in memory of himself - while he was still alive. Self-absorbed much?!
As we leave Jarlabanke and other vain Vikings behind us, you will probably wonder how 1000 years can feel so close.
