City discovery topped with an iconic site, what more do you need? On our Copenhagen’s Old Town & City Hall Private Walking Tour, we’ll give you tales of fires, politics, royalty and a visit to the Copenhagen City Hall.
The story about the tour
If you’re travelling through Europe, Scandinavia or Denmark, looking for the hidden gems your destination (in this case Copenhagen) has to offer, we have one for you that you might not immediately think about, yet it’s right in front of you. What could it be? The Copenhagen City Hall, of course!
If you’ve heard of, visited, or tuned in to the Nobel Prize Ceremonies, you’ve seen the exquisite city halls Scandinavia’s capitals offer (in Oslo & Stockholm). Though not home to a Nobel Prize Ceremony, Copenhagen City Hall is no exception! Although we cannot see as much of this city hall as we can of the others, it is still worth a brief visit to appreciate its beauty. That’s just what we do on our Copenhagen’s Old Town & City Hall Private Walking Tour!
Starting near the Copenhagen Central Station, we’ll set off on our walk, passing by the Tivoli Gardens before reaching the gateway to Copenhagen’s Old Town, the City Hall Square. After marvelling at the Copenhagen City Hall, we’ll wander down cosy alleys of the Old Town, see former city hall buildings (there’s been a few), hear stories about royalty at the Copenhagen Cathedral and learn about famous Danes at the University of Copenhagen. One built one of our next stops, The Round Tower. Walking up a spiralling ramp and a few stairs, we’ll reach the top of the tower for a great view of the area and southern Sweden if it’s a clear day.
Although much of Copenhagen’s Old Town has been touched by sweeping fires and war, not everything was destroyed. Back on the ground, we’ll wander the quiet streets reaching the main shopping street, Strøget, ending with a view of the palace island, Slotsholmen, home to Christiansborg Palace. With tales of fires, politics, royalty and Danish designs, we finish our tour in the heart of Copenhagen, just a stone’s throw from Kongens Nytorv, Nyhavn and the many more things Copenhagen has to offer. Just ask your guide!
