What do you need to make a UNESCO World Heritage Site? Join us to find out! On our Drottningholm Palace Private Driving Tour, we check out the residence of the King and Queen and introduce you to their royal grounds.
The story about the tour
Prepare to step back a few hundred years in time as you jump into your private vehicle with your private guide and make the approximately 20-30 minute drive out of the inner-city of Stockholm closer to the countryside. A yellow building will appear as you cross the bridge to Lovön. You’re looking at the majestic Drottningholm Palace, the permanent residence of Their Majesties, the King and Queen of Sweden.
The remarkably well-preserved palace and gardens earned a spot on the UNESCO World Heritage Site list in 1991. Made up of the Palace, the Drottningholm Palace Theatre, the Chinese Pavilion and the Palace Park, it is an unparalleled site in Sweden. Walking through the grounds, you’ll see why it’s loved by the locals, who are often seen taking a walk or picnicking in the park.
Not impressed yet? Since 1981, Drottningholm Palace has been the home of the King and Queen of Sweden, turning this summer residence into a permanent residence for the first time. Who wouldn’t want the palace garden as their backyard playground? Wait until you see it! Today the Royal Couple have plenty of grandchildren to come and visit the former home of the pair’s three children, Crown Princess Victoria, Prince Carl Philip and Princess Madeleine. Who knows, maybe you’ll catch a glimpse of them!
During our visit to the Royal Domain of Drottningholm, we’ll take a private tour of the palace and its exquisite rooms. Afterwards, we’ll go out to the Baroque Garden, and English Park for a stroll to the Chinese Pavilion, like courtiers used to enjoy. A couple of hours later, it’s time to travel back to the city. Your royal excursion will end back where you began. Bid your farewell to your private driver and guide, and if you’re collecting UNESCO World Heritage Sites, you can proudly cross Drottningholm Palace and its grounds off your list.
